Adam Goozh, Managing Director
Adam S. Goozh, Esq. holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan, and a J.D. from The Georgetown University Law Center. Adam is a member of the Maryland and District of Columbia bar. In his role at WashingtonVC, Adam focuses primarily on strategic relationships, fund development, business planning, and due diligence matters.
Previously, Adam was the founder of CreateHope, Inc., innovative software, services and transaction processing business providing corporate social responsibility and business outsourcing solutions to Fortune-class corporations, not-for-profit organizations and governmental entities. The company will process over $400M in transactions in 2008 and provides service to many of the world’s largest and most established organizations.
Adam was a member of the MindShare Class of 2000, an invitation-only program managed by prominent members of the Greater Washington Metropolitan region business community that each year selects the twenty most promising CEOs from high-tech and life-sciences start-up businesses, and in 2004 led CreateHope to being named by Deloitte & Touché one of only 25 Fast 500 National Rising Star Technology Companies and one of only 3 Maryland Fast 50 Rising Star Technology Companies.
Adam has also served as a technical and business strategy consultant to Deloitte & Touché, serves on the boards of several not-for-profit organizations, and is a member of the US Chamber of Commerce Homeland Security Task Force.
Tom Forman, Director of Business Development
Tom serves as Director of Business Development for WashingtonVC where he is responsible for contributing to the strategic growth of portfolio companies and internal WVC business operations. Tom brings a wealth of business, technology, and communications experience to the team dating back to the infancy of the commercial Internet.
Prior to joining WashingtonVC, Tom was the Vice President of Operations for Conceptual, Inc. a technology development company, which serves high profile clients including Microsoft and Verizon.
Tom also served as a Senior Project Manager for OpenSales, Inc. a custom software development and professional services firm founded by Idealab. Among many accomplishments at OpenSales, Tom managed the production of a custom ecommerce and inventory control system for ThinkGeek.com, a division of VA Linux. Tom was also responsible for helping establish the firms Eastern, United States operations.
Prior to OpenSales Tom was a Senior Project Manager for US Web. In addition to his day-to-day management duties, Tom was the resident expert for requirements and quality assurance initiatives. At US Web he applied his knowledge to help launch highly publicized initiatives for Gannett, US Airways, and Dicks Sporting Goods.
Tom began his career as the Manager of Information Systems for Tower Resource Management. TRM builds wireless networks for national carriers including AT&T, Verizon, and Nextel. At TRM Tom was responsible for managing production of corporate asset management, billing, and marketing systems.
James T. Duke, CPA/MBA, Chief Financial Officer
Jim Duke joined the company in August 2007 with 20+ years of experience providing comprehensive financial management and leadership to a diversified group of national and international financial and outsourcing service organizations in multi-national and multi-business unit structures. Jim has a successful track record in managing all financial operations in high growth, diversified and decentralized environments– including the successful completion of numerous stock and equity/debt financing transactions (ranging from small to billion dollar funding levels) and over 20 significant acquisitions/divestments. Most recently, Duke served as Vice President- Corporate Controller and Chief Accounting Officer at Sodexo, Inc., a leading provider of food and outsourcing services to Fortune 500 customers and governmental agencies throughout North America, in addition to 15+ years experience in the financial services industry in executive financial management positions ranging from Director of Strategic Planning, Corp. Controller, and CFO roles. Jim resides in Potomac Falls, VA, with his wife Cindy and their daughter and two sons.
Brian Leventhal, General Counsel
Brian is responsible for managing the company’s legal affairs, including negotiating and structuring investments. He has been with the company since its inception and has played a key role in its growth. Brian has more than 12 years of experience assisting corporate clients with a variety of legal and business issues. He has held in-house positions with three different companies, including Teligent, Inc., a public telecommunications company where he served as Senior Counsel. After leaving Teligent, Brian managed a successful solo practice which eventually led him to Mike Mann and WashingtonVC. Brian’s extensive business law experience includes complex commercial transactions, international joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate governance. Brian received his J.D. with honors from Washington College of Law at The American University, and his B.A, from the University of Pennsylvania. He is a member of the Maryland Bar and the District of Columbia Bar.
Mike Mann, Chairman and Founder
Mike Mann is an Internet entrepreneur, philanthropist and author with a track record of starting and growing successful businesses. Mike Mann serves as Chairman and Founder of WashingtonVC, a private equity group whose portfolio of companies share resources, talent and technologies to deliver innovative digital products and services. In ‘94 he founded Internet Interstate, which he sold to Verio in ‘97. In ‘98, he founded BuyDomains.com, the world’s largest secondary market for domain names, and sold majority interest to Highland Capital and Summit Partners in 2005, along with the “Seeq.com” search engine portal. Between ‘98 and ‘01, he served as the founding Chairman of ByteBack.org (501c3), which operates free computer training centers serving inner-city communities. Mike is the Founder and Chairman of Grassroots.org(501c3), a global network providing free services to nonprofits and promoting social action. He also manages Make Change! Trust, a charitable fund that supports select 501c3 organizations.
